Review: 2018 Honda Odyssey

The all-new 2018 Honda Odyssey has been making waves in Richmond and beyond as it shatters preconceptions of what defines a minivan.

Sure, it's practical and has a multitude of parent-friendly features that make it an idea family ride. But it also has a sleek new design and more modern tech and entertainment features than even some of the latest crossovers aimed at Millennials.

Read on to see why the all-new Odyssey isn't your parents' minivan, then come to our convenient Staunton location for a test drive:

Comfort and Convenience

A spacious cabin with seating for up to eight passengers can quickly turn into chaos without the right features to keep everyone entertained, organized, and within view of the driver and passenger. Keep the whole crew in line with the CabinTalk, which allows you to mute all media for easy communication with backseat passengers. The Odyssey is also available with CabinWatch, a ceiling-mounted camera with infrared LEDs that lets you check on people in the second and third rows without losing sight of the road.

The available HondaVAC in-car vacuum makes spills, pet hair, and everyday dirt and detritus non-issues thanks to its extendable hose and easily removable waste bin. Honda's Magic Slide Seats allow you to move the second-row seats forward and to the center, so you can easily reach kids in need of assistance, as well as provide better access to the third row. The 2018 Odyssey also comes available with a hands-free power tailgate, wide flat cargo management system, programmable height function, and a Blu-ray Rear Entertainment System.

Safety and Technology

The 2018 Odyssey comes in six trims: LX, EX, EX-L, EX-L N/R, Touring, and Elite. Each model is equipped with a multi-angle rearview camera with guidelines, Hill Start Assist, daytime running lights, and a security system with remote entry. The EX and above all come standard with the advanced Honda Sensing suite of driver assistance features, including Collision Mitigation Braking, Road Departure Mitigation, Lane Keeping Assist, and Adaptive Cruise Control.

EX trims and up also feature standard power sliding doors, three-zone climate control, 8-inch display audio, heated front seats, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and HD Radio. The EX-L adds HomeLink universal remote, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and a one-touch power moonroof, while the EX-L N/R gives you an HDMI interface, Honda Satellite-Linked Navigation, and the Blu-ray Rear Entertainment System. Upper trims come with mobile hotspot capability, premium audio, multi-zone audio, and wireless mobile device charger.

Performance

All models of the all-new Odyssey are powered by a robust 3.5-liter i-VTEC V6 direct inject engine mated to a smooth-shifting 9-speed automatic transmission with Shift-By-Wire and paddle shifters. The powertrain makes 280 horsepower and 262 lb-ft of torque, and gets an EPA estimated 22 MPG combined*.
